JaMarcus Russell’s comeback attempt is taking a step forward.

The former No. 1 overall pick of the Oakland Raiders in 2007 will reportedly work out for the Chicago Bears on Friday.

The Raiders released Russell in May of 2010 for a multitude of reasons. After holding out following the draft and missing training camp, Russell signed a six-year deal that included $31 million in guaranteed money. On the field, Russell was nothing short of a disappointment, throwing 23 interceptions compared to just 18 touchdowns to go along with a 52.1 completion percentage.

Two months after the Raiders cut him loose, Russell was arrested in Alabama for possession of codeine cough syrup. He hasn’t been seen in the NFL since.

Russell announced he was attempting to make his way back to professional football in January, but no teams have expressed any interest publicly.
