GREEN BAY, Wis. -– Raiders backup quarterback Derek Carr will skip Friday’s exhibition at the Green Bay Packers.
Head coach Dennis Allen told NFL Network that the team’s second-round pick cleared the NFL’s concussion protocol, but sore ribs will keep him on the sideline.

Carr suffered both injuries from the same hit, when Detroit defensive end Larry Webster drove him to the turf in last week’s preseason game.
Carr didn’t miss a practice, though he was limited at times. Allen’s decision was expected, with further injury risk outweighing the action he would’ve gotten in Green Bay. Allen said Wednesday that the team planned to be cautious with Carr’s injuries.

Starters, including veteran passer Matt Schaub, are expected to play most of three quarters in what’s considered a dress rehearsal for the regular season.
Second-year pro Matt McGloin, who led last week’s 27-26 come-from-behind victory over the Lions after Carr got hurt, will take Carr’s snaps with the second team.
