The Raiders made it through the preseason relatively healthy. In Week 1, the injury bug bit.
It infected key players throughout the squad, including quarterback Derek Carr (hand) and defensive tackle Justin Ellis (ankle).
It might decimate their secondary. Free safety Nate Allen suffered a knee injury in the first quarter, and the Raiders fear the worst. ESPN reported on Monday morning that the team is concerned Allen has a torn ACL after getting hit in the outside of his right knee by teammate Ray-Ray Armstrong, who flew in making a tackle.
Further testing is scheduled for Monday. If the Raiders' fears are confirmed, Allen would be lost for the season after playing just a quarter of real football. He signed a front-loaded four-year contract with the Raiders this offseason.
ESPN also reports that veteran safety Charles Woodson will have an MRI on his shoulder on Monday. He got hit on the front side of his right shoulder late in the fourth quarter trying to tackle on a run play.
As previously reported, Raiders quarterback Derek Carr will have an MRI on his hand. X-Rays on the Carr’s hand taken Sunday were negative for breaks or fractures.
