The Raiders hope to retain left tackle Jared Veldheer, and have made an offer to do so. Other teams would like to draw him away with a better one.
Count the Arizona Cardinals among his primary suitors. Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic reported that fact on Sunday, saying the Cardinals have strong interest in the 26-year old lineman.
Outside teams we able to start contacting free agents on Saturday, before free agency begins on Tuesday afternoon.
An NFL source indicated last week that Veldheer planned to take the weekend at least before making a decision on his future. Reports also indicated that Miami made contact, but the Dolphins seem set on Kansas City left tackle Branden Albert.
The Raiders have said time and again they hope to keep Veldheer – among the top left tackles in this free agent class – in house. That has not changed.
Veldheer has a connection in Arizona. He protected quarterback Carson Palmer’s blind side extremely well in 2011 and 2012 when both played in Oakland.
