ALAMEDA – The Raiders waived linebacker Kaluka Maiava on Monday off of injured reserve. The sixth year veteran played four games and made two starts before suffering a season-ending hamstring injury.
This was the second straight year Maiava has ended up on injured reserve. He played eight games last season before having his season put to rest.
Maiava was in the middle of a three-year contract that extends through the 2015 season. He was scheduled to make $1.5 million next season and carry a cap number of $2.27 million. According to overthecap.com, his release will carry $678.334 in dead money next year.
As a vested veteran, Maiava is free to sign with another team immediately.
