NAPA -- The Raiders signed veteran offensive tackle Tony Hills on Tuesday morning. Hills played 10 games with one start over five seasons with three different teams. He was waived by the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.
Kicker Eddie Carmona was waived/injured in a corresponding move. Carmona suffered neck and leg injuries during Friday’s exhibition at New Orleans.
Hills (6-foot-5, 304 pounds) has only played one NFL game at left tackle, although he played that position at the University of Texas. He’s played right tackle and right guard on rare occasions when he’s been active during the regular season.
The Raiders have just four healthy guys who can play tackle – one is first-team left guard Tony Bergstrom -- meaning that Hills was likely brought in to help the team get through the preseason. Willie Smith has been playing left tackle this camp, meaning Hills will likely fill in behind Khalif Barnes at right tackle.
