UPDATE (Tuesday, 1:30 p.m.) -- The Raiders confirmed the signing of Andre Carter in a press release.

Defensive lineman Andre Carter is staying in Oakland, agreeing to a new one-year contract, according to a report:

Carter, 33, had two and one-half sacks in 12 games for the Raiders last season. He signed with Oakland in September of 2012, but was limited by a torn quad muscle.

The 12-year NFL veteran and San Jose native was the San Francisco 49ers’ first-round selection (seventh overall) in the 2001 NFL Draft and owns 78.5 career sacks. He collected 32 sacks in his first five NFL seasons with the 49ers.

Carter joins a fresh group on Oakland's defensive line. Lamarr Houston is expected to be the long returning starter, while Pat Sims, Vance Walker and Jason Hunter are expected to compete for starting jobs.
