ALAMEDA – The Raiders placed tight end David Ausberry on injured reserve Thursday afternoon, formally ending another injury-plagued season.
Ausberry hasn’t been able to stay healthy during his four-year NFL career, which has left his potential untapped.
The USC grad entered training camp as the No. 1 tight end, but lost that spot following knee surgery in August. He struggled to get back in the mix once healthy, and was officially taken out of it with a foot injury in late October.
This is the second straight season where he ended up on IR. He missed the entire 2013 campaign with a shoulder injury suffered in the preseason.
The Raiders promoted defensive lineman Ricky Lumpkin from the practice squad in a corresponding move.
The team also filled the open practice squad spot by signing cornerback Jansen Watson. Watson was with the team in camp, left for a stretch to contemplate his playing future, returned and was ultimately part of the team’s first-round of cuts.
