NEW YORK -- Kaluka Maiava's season is over. The Raiders outside linebacker was placed on injured reserve Friday afternoon before the team travelled east for Sunday's game against the New York Jets.
Maiava tweeted the information out before the team made it official.
The Raiders didn’t get much from the first part of a three-year, $6 million contract given to Maiava this offseason. Maiava battled injuries all season, and was never a contender to start at strongside linebacker over Sio Moore.
A calf injury sidelined him most of the preseason and nagging rib injuries kept him out of three other games. The calf injury flared up again during a Nov. 28 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, and it was severe enough to eliminate him from the season’s final four games. He finished the season with 17 tackles. Miles Burris is now expected to be a super sub at all linebacker spots, although he's questionable for Sunday with a toe injury.
