Raiders quarterback Matt Schuab wasn’t at the team facility on Friday due to a personal issue.
Head coach Dennis Allen expects him back Monday, when the team will be able to examine the veteran’s sore right elbow. Allen has said the medical evaluation will be key in deciding whether Schaub or rookie Derek Carr will start the regular-season opener at the New York Jets.

Schaub, the presumptive starter since the offseason, missed this week’s practice sessions with an elbow injury, and sat out a Friday exhibition where Carr was near perfect in his stead.
“I want to be able to check on Matt [Schaub] and see where Matt is health-wise,” Allen said Friday in a conference call with local press. “He was making some progress last week, threw on the side with the trainers. I feel like he’ll be ready to go, but I think we need to see how he’s doing Monday when he gets in here.”
The injury also provides some cover should Allen favor Carr but not want to formally pick one quarterback over the other.
“There are a lot of things that factor into the decision making process,” Allen said. “But I will say that I was very pleased with what I saw out of Derek Carr last night.”

Allen said the Raiders won’t carry the quarterback competition into the practice week.
“No,” he said. “We’ll know exactly what we’re doing.”
Some other notes from Allen’s conference call:
-- Tight end David Ausberry is scheduled to practice on Monday, his first session since having knee surgery in early August. That’s a huge boon for a team woefully thin has his position.
-- Weakside linebacker Sio Moore is also scheduled to practice on Monday, nine days after suffering a neck strain last week against Green Bay. He could’ve played Thursday against Seattle, but Allen scratched him to provide more time to recover mentally and physically.
-- Kicker Sebastian Janikowski (right quad) will be ready for the regular-season opener against the New York Jets. He could’ve kicked Friday, but the Raiders played it safe.
-- The practice status of cornerbacks Taiwan Jones (knee) and Chimdi Chekwa (knee) remains uncertain. They will be evaluated further on Monday.
-- The Raiders are already in the process of making cuts. The roster must be trimmed to 53 by 1 p.m. on Saturday.
