ALAMEDA -- Raiders cornerback Carlos Rogers missed his second straight practice with a knee injury that has bothered him for a few weeks. It didn’t prevent him from playing Sunday against the Browns, but he only missed one day’s work before that game.
Interim head coach Tony Sparano said additional time off has become a cause for concern, but it doesn’t eliminate the possibility of Rogers playing on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks.
“We’ll see how he is tomorrow,” Sparano said. “Last week, he was really limited during the course of the week as well. Obviously, I have concerns because he hasn’t practiced in two days. He’s a veteran player that knows what to do, so we’d really wait until the last minute there.”
If Rogers can’t go, the Raiders will use a few players in his stead. T.J. Carrie will move into the starting lineup and possibly move into the slot as Rogers does in the nickel package. Neiko Thorpe is also a possibility in the slot. It should also increase playing time for D.J. Hayden, who is being eased back in after missing seven weeks with a foot injury.
“We’ll use different guys depending on the situation,” defensive coordinator Jason Tarver said.
The hope, however, is that Rogers will be healthy enough to play.
Some other injury notes from Raiders practice:
-- Receiver Kenbrell Thompkins left the team facility before Thursday’s practice to for personal reasons. Sparano was uncertain how long Thompkins would be gone and if he’d return in time to play against the Seahawks.
-- Fullback Jamize Olawale was added to the participation report with a shoulder injury. He was limited in Thursday’s practice.
-- Tight end David Ausberry has been out an extended period and did not practice on Thursday. The Raiders worked out three tight ends on Monday, suggesting that Ausberry could be out an extended period.
