ALAMEDA -- Maurice Jones-Drew's absence do to a hand injury was the biggest surprise on the Raiders injury report on Wednesday, but there was good news to be gleaned as well.

Nick Roach has not yet been cleared for full contact, but head coach Dennis Allen sounded optimistic as the team's middle linebacker continues to recover from concussion-like symptoms.
“He’s doing better," head coach Dennis Allen said after practice on Wednesday. "He did a little bit more today. We’re following protocol and we’re going to stick with it.
"Whenever he’s ready to go, we’ll slide him right back in there.”
Roach and cornerback Chimdi Chekwa were limited in practice Wednesday.
Taiwan Jones did not participate, as he will be "out for some time" with a foot injury.

Kaluka Maiava (illness) also did not practice.
