ALAMEDA – Raiders receiver Rod Streater is eligible to come off short-term injured reserve and play Sunday against the St. Louis Rams. That doesn’t mean he will.
The third-year pro has split time with the scout team and the Raiders offense in this week’s practice, his first workouts since fracturing his foot in a Week 3 loss to the New England Patriots.
Streater was placed on injured reserve with a designation to return, which mandates a player be out eight weeks. Streater could’ve been activated on Thursday, though he has a 21-day practice window – it started Monday – before the Raiders must place him on the 53-man roster or season-ending injured reserve.
Interim head coach Tony Sparano said the Raiders will be patient with Streater’s return.
“We’re going to take our time with that and see where we are with it,” Sparano said. “We’ll discuss it. …. My feeling with that is not different than with DJ [Hayden] when we took DJ off (the physically unable to perform list). You really just have to be completely sure that the guy is ready to go.”
If the Raiders decide to activate Streater, they’ll make a transaction on Saturday. That would require a corresponding move.
Other Raiders injury news:
-- Cornerback Carlos Rogers will miss his fourth straight game with a knee injury.
-- Cornerback TJ Carrie is probable to play on Sunday, though DJ Hayden will retain a starting spot opposite Tarell Brown. He has played well over three consecutive starts.
-- Reports out of St. Louis have indicated that Rams defensive end Chris Long is expected to be activated from short-term injured reserve before Sunday’s game.
-- Left guard Gabe Jackson is questionable with a knee injury. If he can’t go, Khalif Barnes will continue to start in Jackson’s stead.
