ALAMEDA – Menelik Watson made eight straight starts at right tackle. That’s a solid run for the Raiders second-year pro, who lost most of his rookie year to injury.
The streak will snap on Sunday against the 49ers. Watson was ruled out with ankle and foot injuries on Friday, when the team revealed its formal injury report.
The move was expected after Watson missed a week’s practice. Khalif Barnes will play right tackle and Gabe Jackson will play left guard, a shift made after Watson got hurt in a loss to the St. Louis Rams.
Jackson missed the three previous games with a knee strain and planned on easing back into action as a part-timer, but that wasn’t possible with Watson out.
“I felt a little rusty after being out for a while,” the rookie said. “I was able to get back into swing of things and, with a full week of practice, I’m ready to go.”
Barnes should be as well, despite playing left guard during Jackson’s time out. He’s back at his natural position, so the transition shouldn’t be difficult.
With Watson down and Barnes in the starting lineup, Matt McCants will be the swing tackle.
Other injury notes from Raiders practice:
-- Cornerback Tarell Brown has been limited this week’s practice due to a foot injury. He’s considered questionable despite doing more active work on Friday.
-- Weakside linebacker Sio Moore suffered a hip injury during the practice week and is questionable for Sunday’s game.
-- Running back Latavius Murray was a full participant again on Friday and will play Sunday. He’s officially listed as probable.
