ALAMEDA -- Raiders cornerback Tarell Brown did an admirable job managing a foot injury that’s bothered him the last three weeks, even before he landed ugly and awkward on it a week later against the 49ers.
The veteran played nearly every snap the following week at Kansas City, and many expected his absence this week to be similar. Brown wouldn’t practice, but find a way to play.
The injury finally felled him. Brown missed all three practices this week and was ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills.
“Tarell has been one of the toughest competitors we have,” interim head coach Tony Sparano said. “He’s grinded through some things but, this week, we just couldn’t get him ready in time.”
Brown had started 14 consecutive games, and was the only Raiders cornerback to play in every game. That streak has been snapped, and it’s a big blow.

The Raiders will play without their No. 1 cornerback, and possibly a few others in that position group. Chimdi Chekwa was ruled out with a hamstring injury, and D.J. Hayden is questionable with a back problem.
Hayden is expected to play and start opposite rookie T.J. Carrie. The No. 3 corner remains a mystery. It could be Neiko Thorpe, who has stepped in at times. It could be Ras-I Dowling or Brandian Ross, who has dropped into the slot from strong safety.
Regardless, the Raiders are no longer deep or particularly strong with three-plus opposing receivers on the field.
Other injury notes from Raiders practice:
-- Defensive end C.J. Wilson (knee) was a full participant in Friday’s practice, after returning to action in a limited role the day before. He’s questionable but should play.

-- As expected, quarterback Derek Carr has no problem with a thumb issue that limited him on Wednesday. He’s probable and will start his 15th straight game.
