ALAMEDA – Raiders interim head coach Tony Sparano “thought the worst” when cornerback Tarell Brown fell awkwardly trying to defend a pass in Sunday’s victory over the 49ers.
It looked awful, and there was immediate concern that Brown was seriously injured. Yet, there Brown was, back on the field a few plays later.
He finished the game strong. He was targeted five times, but gave up just two receptions for 42 yards.

The injury may be a bit more troublesome than expected. Brown, who entered the 49ers game questionable with a foot injury, has missed consecutive workouts with foot and ankle injuries.
His playing status for Sunday’s game at Kansas City remains uncertain, though it’s more unsettled than before.
“I didn’t have as much a concern yesterday, but after he didn’t practice today,” interim head coach Tony Sparano said after Thursday’s practice, “it gives me more concern.”
Brown has been the Raiders’ best cornerback by far, and is the only member of that position group to have played every game.
Other notes from Raiders practice:
-- The Raiders practiced at an off-site facility due to bad weather. They used a site typically reserved for indoor soccer, but were able to get solid work in. Sparano said field confines hindered the practice some, but it wasn’t a great inconvenience.
“It wasn’t that big of a deal,” Sparano said. “We had seen the forecast…We went out in the rain last week, but with the way this storm was coming in, there wasn’t much we’d get accomplished. We planned ahead, and we were pretty well organized. We got good work in.”
-- Receiver Denarius Moore missed both practices this week with knee and ankle injuries that Sparano said occurred away from the facility. ESPN is reporting that Moore got hurt tripping over some stairs at the team hotel prior to Sunday’s win over the 49ers. He was inactive for that game, though the team did not add him to the injury list.
-- Defensive tackle Pat Sims missed practice with a shoulder injury. Safety Larry Asante was held out with shoulder and quadriceps injuries. Both players were limited on Wednesday.
