ALAMEDA -– Raiders right guard Austin Howard was fined $8,268 for unnecessary roughness in Sunday’s 24-13 victory over the 49ers, an NFL spokesman said on Friday afternoon.
Howard was flagged for unnecessary roughness early in the first quarter, following a short completion from quarterback Derek Carr to running back Latavius Murray.

49ers cornerbacks Perrish Cox and Dontae Johnson and linebacker Chris Borland stopped Murray’s forward progress but continued to hold him upright. That’s when Howard entered the fray, near the time the whistle blew, and knocked Cox off his feet.
It was one of several dustups during a backyard rivalry game where trash talking and physical play was a regular occurrence.
