NEW YORK – Usama Young’s season is over. The Raiders placed the veteran safety on injured reserve on Saturday afternoon as part of three separate transactions.
Linebacker Kaluka Maiava (calf) was placed on injured reserve as expected and defensive lineman Brian Sanford was waived, which allowed the team to promote defensive back Chance Casey, safety Shelton Johnson and linebacker Marshall McFadden from the practice squad.

Sunday’s game against the New York Jets will mark the NFL debut of all three players.
Maiava tweeted that his season was over on Friday afternoon. Young made no such pronouncement, but his long-term status was in jeopardy after suffering a neck injury Nov. 28 against the Dallas Cowboys. He left Texas wearing a neck brace, and an injury originally diagnosed as a stinger proved worse.
Sanford was released for the fourth time this season to make room for depth in another position group.
McFadden makes up for Maiava’s loss, although Miles Burris will be the primary backup if he can play through a toe injury. Johnson will back up strong safety Brandian Ross and Casey will add emergency depth to the secondary and contribute on special teams.
