OAKLAND –- The Raiders often host children with health complications, and make one day incredibly special. Ava Urrea came to the team’s headquarters on Friday, and was given red-carpet treatment.
The team lavished her with gifts and allowed her to break down the team after practice. She has been named an honorary captain for Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills.
Urrea was born with heart complications and has had surgery after surgery trying to keep her alive.
Right tackle Menelik Watson was so taken by her story that he gave her a game check. Players only get paid 17 times, and Watson gave one up to support a child in need and ensure she receives proper care.
Watson’s weekly game check is $36,644 before taxes. Watson has a daughter in Manchester, England, where he was raised.
Watson was ruled out of Sunday’s game with foot and ankle injuries.
