ALAMEDA -- Raiders quarterback Matt McGloin was named the NFL’s rookie of the week on Friday afternoon. The league announced results of an internet fan vote, where he beat out four other nominees.
McGloin impressed his team and the entire NFL with an exemplary performance in Sunday’s 28-23 road victory over the Houston Texans. The undrafted rookie out of Penn State had 197 yards, three touchdowns, no interceptions and a 105.9 passer rating in his first NFL start.
Running back Rashad Jenning was nominated to be the league’s rusher of the week, but lost out to Tampa Bay running back Bobby Rainey. Jennings had a career-high 150 yards, which included a stellar 80-yard touchdown run that provided points necessary to beat the Texans.
