It was just a few years ago that Chris Johnson was considered one of the best running backs in the NFL.
Now, the 28-year-old is looking for new employment after the Tennessee Titans released the former first-round draft pick on Friday.
In six seasons with the Titans, Johnson accumulated 7,965 rushing yards, 50 rushing touchdowns 2,003 receiving yards and eight receiving touchdowns.
Johnson is a three-time Pro Bowler and was an All-Pro in 2009, a year he led the league with 2,006 rushing yards.
By releasing Johnson, the Titans save $23 million over the next three seasons.
On Friday, Johnson issued a statement following his release:
I’d like to thank all of my teammates, the fans, the staff and the coaches who have supported me throughout my journey with the Titans. I have grown so much as an individual and as teammate over the past few years, and I am excited about the opportunity to bring my experience and talents to a new organization. I’m looking forward to the next chapter and can’t wait to contribute to my new team.
