ALAMEDA –The Raiders keep veteran safety Charles Woodson out of physical practices to lessen a load on his ailing shoulder and help him be physically ready for game day.
Edge rusher Khalil Mack might be getting similar treatment. He missed his second straight Wednesday practice with a knee injury. Last week’s downtime certainly didn’t hurt his performance at Denver, when he had five sacks and a forced fumble.
It seems unlikely, especially considering he spoke at length with the press before practice, that the absence will impact his playing status for Sunday’s home game against Green Bay.

The same can be said for receiver Amari Cooper, who is playing through a foot issue. He was limited in two practices last week but played against Denver, though he didn’t have a catch in eight targets.
Right tackle Austin Howard’s absence is of greater concern to the Raiders. He suffered a knee injury against Denver and did not return. He is considered day-to-day.
Running back Taiwan Jones is also back on the shelf with a knee issue. Has missed most of the last month.
Safety Nate Allen returned to work after missing a week with a knee ailment.
NOTE: Buffalo signed sixth-round pick Max Valles off the Raiders practice squad. The speed edge rusher was a young developmental prospect, and the Raiders could’ve blocked the move by adding him to the 53-man roster. That didn’t happen, meaning Valles could leave.
