The Raiders will open up their regular season in New Orleans Sunday against the Saints with four captains - two on offense, two on defense - walking out for the coin flip.
At the Raiders Foundation Luncheon in Alameda on Tuesday afternoon, head coach Jack Del Rio announced his team's four captains.
The second-year head coach listed off quarterback Derek Carr, center Rodney Hudson, edge rusher Khalil Mack, and free safety Reggie Nelson as captains. Each player was voted as a captain by his Raider teammates.
Nelson is in his first season with Oakland while Hudson is in second under Del Rio. Both Carr and Mack enter their third seasons with the team after the Raiders selected the duo in the 2014 NFL Draft.
“I’m very shocked,” Nelson told the Raiders official team website after being named a team captain. “It just shows that I’ve been doing the right thing, and now I just have to keep it going.”
The Raiders square off with the Saints at 10:00 a.m. PT on Sunday, Sept. 10.
