ALAMEDA – Cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha will announce his retirement from NFL football on Friday afternoon at Raiders headquarters.
He’ll sign a ceremonial one-day contract with the team tomorrow that will allow him to formally retire as a Raider.
The University of California product played eight seasons with the Raiders and was one of the league’s best defensive backs in his prime. Asomugha played two largely unproductive seasons with Philadelphia -- he was cut two years into a five-year, $60 million contract -- and part of 2013 with the 49ers before being released.
Asomugha was a three-time Pro Bowl selection and a two-time All-Pro while with the Raiders.
All told, he had 15 interceptions and 80 passes defensed in his career.
The Raiders will hold a press conference on Friday to formally announce his retirement and honor his career.
