SAN LUIS OBISPO -- David Nwaba scored 21 points as Cal Poly pulled away from Santa Clara for a 64-53 win Saturday night.
Cal Poly (3-5) ended the first half on an 8-0 run to take a 29-23 lead at the break. Nwaba bookended two layups around a Joel Awich jumper and layup to account for the points.
Cal Poly picked up where they left off to start the second half, but Santa Clara (3-5) responded. Nate Kratch hit a layup to cut the lead back 35-29 with 14:45 left. The Mustangs responded with a 10-2 run.
Chris Eversley pulled down 15 rebounds to go with nine points for Cal Poly.
Brandon Clark and Evan Roquemore each scored 12 points for Santa Clara while Kratch added 11.
Cal Poly was 3 for 11 from 3-point range while Santa Clara was 4 for 20.
