SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Winston Shepard scored 20 points and San Diego State used a second-half surge to cruise past San Jose State 74-56 Saturday night.
Shepard was 6 of 11 from the field, 7 of 9 from the line and added six rebounds. J.J. O'Brien was 7 of 9 for 15 points and Trey Kell scored 12 as San Diego State shot 60 percent (28 of 47) overall.
San Jose State led 36-35 at the break after Rashad Muhammad's 3-pointer with one second left. Muhammad drilled another trey on the first shot of the second half, then San Jose State went cold- enduring scoreless stretches of 8:28 and 4:54 - as San Diego State went on a 20-2 run and opened a 55-41 lead.
Muhammad finished with 27, while Darryl Gaynor II had 23 as the two players combined for all but six of the Spartans points. The rest of the team was 2-of-10 shooting.
