LOGAN, Utah -- Jalen Moore scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Utah State past San Jose State 61-33 Wednesday night in the Mountain West Conference opener for both teams.
Chris Smith added 14 points for the Aggies (8-5, 1-0), which made 11 of 22 3-pointers.
Due to suspensions for violations of team rules, San Jose State had just seven players available. It used a zone defense and slow offensive pace to begin the first half and led 10-8 with 12:49 to play, before a four-point play by Darius Perkins sparked a 13-0 run by the Aggies.
Utah State closed the first half with a 14-0 run, including three-consecutive 3-pointers by Moore, and led 35-12 at halftime.
Daryl Gaynor II and Ryan Singer led San Jose State (2-11, 0-1), which shot just 15 percent in the first half and 20 percent overall, with eight points apiece. Ivo Basor had 11 rebounds.
