SMU opened fall camp this week, and the most famous name on the roster was nowhere to be found.
Kick returner Deion Sanders, Jr., is no longer a member of the Mustangs’ roster, the Dallas Morning News has reported. An SMU spokesman confirmed Sanders is no longer part of the program, but is still in school with plans to graduate in December.
Sanders earned Second Team All-AAC honors as a kick returner in 2014 with a 20.5-yard average of 37 returns. He was demoted to the Mustangs’ secondary returner in 2015 — returning only 15 kicks to Braeden West‘s 27 — despite his average spiking to 24.8.
