As the Kings try to improve their pace of play and ascend from No. 30 in the league in assists last season, the team is adding analytics guru Dean Oliver to its basketball operations staff.
Oliver was introduced during Friday's Media Day at the team's practice facility.
Oliver toiled in Denver with head coach George Karl and then assistant GM Pete D'Alessandro, who is now in his second year as GM in Sacramento.
Kings head coach Michael Malone calls Oliver "a premier talent in the NBA on analytics," stressing his "feel for the game" and ability to avoid "getting lost in the numbers.”
The statistical evaluation of basketball, sometimes called APBRmetrics (Association for Professional Basketball Research Metrics), is a term used to refer to the analysis of basketball through objective evidence, primarily statistics.
