The tough times continue as the Kings fell to Dallas 101-78 Thursday at Sleep Train Arena.
The watershed moment occurred with the score tied at 35 with 5:16 remaining in the second quarter, as Dallas went on a 25-8 run to lead 60-43 at intermission.
The Mavericks run included 11 points from Monta Ellis, who capped the run with a 3-pointer at the halftime buzzer. Dallas shot 5-for-11 from downtown in the quarter.
The Kings never threatened thereafter. Dallas led by as many as 29 in the fourth quarter at the 2:39 mark, 98-69.
Although Sacramento entered the night in the NBA's top 10 in defending the 3-point line on a percentage basis, Dallas made 12 from beyond the arc on the night.
Offensively, the Kings struggled shooting 3-for-21 from downtown and had only two players in DeMarcus Cousins (23) and Rudy Gay (11) in double figures.
Dallas was led by Ellis’ 21 points, while Tyson Chandler (16), J.J. Barea (15), Devin Harris (15) and Richard Jefferson (13) were all in double figures.
Sacramento was paced by Cousins’ 30th double-double of the season with 23 points and 11 rebounds.
Gay was the only other Kings in double figures, contributing 11 points on just 2-for-13 shooting on the night. Darren Collison left with 2:16 in the second quarter with an abdominal strain and didn’t return to the floor.
With the loss, Sacramento has been swept in the season series by two consecutive opponents, Dallas (3-0) and Golden State (4-0).
Sacramento (17-31) has lost 10 of its last 11 games and is now 6-18 under Tyrone Corbin as its head coach.
After falling to Golden State on Wednesday, Dallas (34-18) bounced back in their second game of a back-to-back to win in Sacramento without an injured Rajon Rondo and with Dirk Nowitzki on the sidelines resting.
The Mavericks have won four of their last five games after enduring a season long four game losing streak.
Ellis scored 21 points for the Mavericks and was clutch in the pivotal second quarter for Dallas' run.
Dallas took control in the second quarter outscoring Sacramento 37-20 and lead 60-43 at the intermission.
Kings -- F Eric Moreland (left shoulder labral tear) was out and F Reggie Evans was added to the inactive list and was out. G Darren Collison left the game at the 1:16 mark of the second quarter with an abdominal strain and did not return in the second half.
Mavs -- G Rajon Rondo (left orbital fracture) and F Dirk Nowitzki (rest) were out.
The Kings travel to Utah to face the Jazz on Saturday and return home Sunday to face the Suns.
