Kings small forward Rudy Gay injured his ankle in Saturday’s 102-90 loss to the Jazz in Utah and is out with a sore left foot for Sunday’s game vs. the Suns at Sleep Train Arena.
Gay landed on teammate DeMarcus Cousins’ foot in the first quarter while defending a Gordon Hayward jump shot and appeared to be favoring the ankle the rest of the night.
He went 1-for-8 from the floor and scored just eight points.
Gay struggled as well in Thursday’s 101-78 loss to Dallas, shooting 2-for-13 from the floor.
Gay is not the only starter bogged down by injury as starting point guard Darren Collison will miss his second consecutive game due to a right hip flexor strain.
Collison did not play in Utah after an MRI on Friday revealed the injury sustained in Thursday night's 101-78 loss to the Mavericks.
With 1:44 left in the second quarter, Collison made a driving layup to cut the Mavericks' lead to 52-39, but the point guard landed awkwardly and immediately grabbed his right groin area before walking to the locker room under his own power.
Ramon Sessions (5.5 points and 2.5 assists per game) started in Utah on Saturday and Ray McCallum (3.9 points and 1.4 assists per game) also provides depth at the point guard spot for Sacramento.
