SAN JOSE -- The Sharks unveiled new home and road sweaters in time for the 2013-14 season on their website on Tuesday.
The result is a much lighter and cleaner look to the home teals and road whites. There was an emphasis on decreasing the weight of the sweaters, so the striping on the bottom and the shoulder caps were removed, and there is now neck line lacing. There is much less orange in the new sweaters, as well, as that has been removed as an accent from the players’ numbers.
The design is similar to the black third jerseys, which remain unchanged. The players have preferred to wear black in the playoffs at home in the past three seasons. In 2013, they were a perfect 7-0 in them in the playoffs and 5-1-2 in the regular season.
“The jersey was designed mainly with performance in mind,” Doug Wilson said in a video posted on the team’s website. “Remove extra weighting, the lettering, and make it as efficient as our third jersey, the black jersey.”

John Tortora, the chief operating officer, said: “We felt by taking away some of the piping along the bottom of the jersey, and also along the shoulders, made the jersey a lot lighter. Therefore, the players could move more quickly and easily on the ice, and that was the main emphasis.”
Sharks players and the training staff all had a say in the new sweater, which is made from Reebok “Play-Dry Stretch Fabric.” Shortly after the announcement, Brent Burns tweeted: “fun getting to see the new jerseys! They felt great and looked awesome up close.”
Of course, with a new sweater, comes new revenue. Fans are able to order a sweater online, with an authentic version running $275. A “premier men’s” replica runs $140, a ladies replica $120, and a youth $95, not including sales tax.
