Jayson Werth will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder Friday, a procedure that could prevent the veteran Nationals outfielder from being 100 percent healthy in time for Opening Day, multiple sources confirmed Thursday afternoon.
Werth needs the surgery to repair the AC joint in his throwing shoulder, an injury that plagued him late last summer but forced him to miss only five games. Recovery time is expected to be 2-to-3 months, according to a club source, which would set up his return sometime in March, perhaps not until after Opening Day on April 6.
