Matt Cain will undergo season-ending surgery on his right elbow, according to multiple reports.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy delivered the news to reporters following the Giants' 4-3 victory over the Mets Monday afternoon.
“It’s been frustrating for him,” Bochy told Alex Pavlovic of the Bay Area News Group. “Matt’s been battling this for a while. It’s time. He could keep trying to push it but it’s inevitable, it looks like. Let’s have this done and get him ready for spring training.”
The surgery will reportedly take place next Monday in San Francisco, with an estimated recovery time of three months.
The club's medical staff recommended surgery for Cain’s inflamed right elbow. Two more doctors offered concurring opinions, including noted orthopedist Dr. James Andrews.
But Cain had to be on board as well. Last Friday in New York, the Giants’ right-hander wanted to try throwing one more time, playing catch from 60 feet.
Following the throwing session, Bochy told reporters at Citi Field that he was not optimistic Cain would throw another pitch this season.
“Chances are, if you’re putting odds on it, the odds are not going to be that he will pitch,” Bochy said.
Cain last pitched on July 9.
He finishes the season with a 2-7 record to go along with a 4.18 ERA, the highest of his career.
