The Padres became the latest team to hold a private workout with Cuban slugger Yasmany Tomas, according to Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com.
The audition was held on Friday.
Per his agent, Tomas was officially declared a free agent by MLB on Thursday and is now free to sign with any team. An open workout in the Dominican Republic last month attracted upwards of 200 scouts, but he has reportedly had private workouts with the Rangers and Phillies since. According to Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish, the Giants and Mets are among the other teams to watch.
