SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – If Giants left fielder Michael Morse has nightmares Wednesday night, you can bet Spiderman will be in them.

And he’ll be wearing green and gold.

“There he goes, climbing walls,” said Morse, after A’s right fielder Josh Reddick robbed him of not one home run but two in the Cactus League opener for both clubs Wednesday.

Both times, Reddick planted his cleats against the clain-link fence, thrust his arm over the top of the 10-foot fence and brought the ball back into play. Morse, who was playing his first game as a Giant, clapped his hands to his helmet in the first inning. When Reddick did it again in the fourth, Morse wore a look of disbelief.

“I was like, 'I thought we were friends!’ ” Morse said.  “He’s known for doing that. I’m happy to help him work on that in spring training, I guess.”

Reddick called the first catch, in which he spun around while hoisting himself up the fence, the best he’s ever made.

“Without a doubt, bar none,” Reddick said. “I have no idea how I did it. I just guessed right.”

Reddick and Morse know each other, but not well. Reddick said he wished he had Morse’s cell number so he could text him.

“I know he takes his defense so seriously,” Morse said. “He’s one of the best right fielders in the game.”

It was a nothing-can-go-right day for the Giants. Yusmeiro Petit allowed four runs in a first inning that included a two-base error when right fielder Hunter Pence overran a ball and second baseman Tony Abreu dropped a throw while trying to turn a double play. Sergio Romo got whacked for six runs on seven hits in the fourth inning, too.

Reddick’s second catch came with the A’s leading 10-1.

Morse already had his opposite-field power swing going in live batting practice, and the two robberies raise an interesting issue: How will that oppo power play at AT&T Park, with the breeze off the bay and that 25-foot arcade in right field?

“My approach is my approach,” Morse said. “I believe in it. I don’t try to hit it to right field. I hit it where it’s pitched.”

Morse paused.

“Plus, who wants two home runs already?” he said.

Pence said Morse should be all right when the regular season begins. And he made a good supporting point.

“You can’t climb brick,” Pence said.
