It didn't move the needle like some of baseball's other blockbuster trades this season, but the Giants acquisition of Jake Peavy is proving to be one of the best starting pitcher pick-ups of 2014.
The A's got Jon Lester, Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel. The Tigers picked up David Price. The Dodgers added Roberto Hernandez. And the Cardinals brought in Justin Masterson.
But none have been as effective as Peavy with their new teams, and he came at a pretty decent price. San Francisco shipped Triple-A reliever Heath Hembree, Triple-A starter Rafael Escobar and cach considerations to the Boston Red Sox.
At the time, Peavy was 1-9 with a 4.72 ERA in 20 starts with the Red Sox. Since then, he's gone 6-4 with a 2.16 ERA in 10 starts with the Giants.
