PHOENIX – The postgame news on Angel Pagan was better than the pregame news on Angel Pagan.
An MRI exam showed inflammation but no structural damage in his sore power back, and Pagan, who is usually makes no promises about his availability, said he was “big time” confident he would play Friday at San Diego.
“It’s pretty much the same thing I’ve been playing through,” said Pagan, who missed 44 games earlier this season with the back ailment and didn’t play in any of the three games at Chase Field this week. “It’s a flare up. These games coming up are really important.”

Pagan isn’t making a trip to see. Dr. Robert Watkins in Los Angeles on Thursday’s day off. He’ll seek treatment and do a little running to keep active. He also didn’t consider any type of injection that would knock him out for a couple days.
With Pagan unavailable, Giants leadoff hitters went 0 for 12 with a walk in the series at Arizona.
