PHOENIX -- Matt Cain is almost certainly headed back to the disabled list, but all things considered, Cain and the Giants got good news Monday.
An MRI on Cain's tight right forearm revealed a flexor tendon strain but no ligament damage. Cain will take a few days off from throwing but said the injury "doesn't sound like it should be" major.
"It sounds like it's just a strain," he said. "We'll take it as it is and let it heal up. The trainers seem pretty positive."
Cain's 2014 season was ended by a procedure to remove bone chips from his right elbow. The Giants took it easy with him this spring in the hopes he would be ready to slide back into the rotation. He was scratched from his scheduled Wednesday start before Monday's season opener.
"It's definitely frustrating, but it goes with the territory" he said. "There are some bumps in the rehab process. This is one of them."
