Signing with San Francisco represents a homecoming for Santa Cruz native Casey McGehee, but he's excited to join Giants forces for another reason -- he won't have to face their pitching.
McGehee isn't too familiar with any players on the current roster, but in addition to Hunter Pence and Buster Posey, he cited pitchers Jake Peavy, Tim Hudson, Sergio Romo and Javier Lopez as individuals he's excited to play alongside.
"I'm really looking forward to playing defense behind them instead of trying to figure out how to get a hit off them," McGehee said Friday morning on 95.7 The Game.
He specifically singled out Romo's devastating slider.
"Yeah, I want to ask him about it," McGehee said. "Because you know it's coming, and you know he's throwing it. And I don't know what it is about it, but it's just so hard to lay off that thing. He just keeps flipping it up there and flipping it up there and then you get bored and he'll freeze you with his fastball.
"You could bet your house that he's throwing a slider and you've still got not a very good chance of hitting it."
McGehee is 0-for-2 in his career against Romo with one strikeout.
