SAN FRANCISCO -- Matt Cain's return to the rotation didn't last long. The Giants put Cain back on the 15-day disabled list before Tuesday's game with the same right hamstring strain that he had just come back from.
Cain pitched just 3 2/3 innings Monday night in his first start since May 27, when he first hurt the hamstring. Chris Stratton, who was sent back to Triple-A on Monday, was recalled and available for Tuesday night's game.
The Giants will likely shift Albert Suarez back into the rotation to fill in for Cain. Suarez was solid in three spot starts and followed Cain on Monday with 3 2/3 innings of his own.
The Cain news came just a few hours after Angel Pagan was activated from the disabled list after dealing with his own hamstring strain.
