On Thursday morning, Giants GM Bobby Evans let it be known that Tim Lincecum's season is over.
On Thursday afternoon, the Giants announced specifics as to why.
The two-time Cy Young Award winner underwent successful arthroscopic surgery Thursday morning on his left hip by Dr. Marc Philippon at the Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colorado.
According to the club, he is resting comfortably and is expected to begin his rehab in the next few days in preparation for the 2016 season.
Lincecum is a free agent at season's end and may have thrown his last pitch for the Orange and Black.
"What that (surgery) leads to in terms of his progression health-wise will really dictate what opportunities he has going forward, with us or elsewhere," Evans said.
