The Giants are "staying engaged" with the Tampa Bay Rays about a potential trade for utility player Ben Zobrist, assistant general manager Bobby Evans said on Sunday.

A day later, Giants broadcaster Mike Krukow had good things to say about the 33-year-old target.
"He's a good player," Krukow said on KNBR 680 Monday morning. "He's a Sabean-type player."
Zobrist is a .264 hitter with a .354 on-base percentage over nine MLB seasons.
"He's a grinder," Krukow added. "Those type of players are invaluable."
Zobrist's versatility -- he can play all three outfield posisitons as well as second and third -- is a key part of the package, but Krukow expects he would not come cheap.
"It's gonna cost you. It's going to cost you someone pretty good," said Krukow, who indicated that second baseman Joe Panik and catcher Andrew Susac were likely untouchable, but that relief pitcher Hunter Strickland and utility infielder Matt Duffy were options.
Zobrist is entering the final season of a six-year, $30 million contract and is due $7.5 million in 2015.
