Casey McGehee has grounded into 11 double plays so far this year, leading the majors. He's also made five errors, tied for first among NL third basemen.
"Hes just trying to grind through it," Giants broadcaster Mike Krukow said on KNBR 680 Monday morning.
McGehee, 32, had a breakthrough on Friday when he connected for a grand slam in the Giants' 6-0 win over the Marlins. But Matt Duffy, who is also seeing regular playing time at third, is playing well.
Duffy delivered the game-winning hit on Sunday. He is batting .273 on the year and has made two errors, though neither have come while playing third.
"There are options," Krukow acknowledged. "And he understands the deal. He understands that he has to be a hitter that gets a hit or two a day, or gets a big hit, or stays out of the double play, and plays good defense.
"I think he knows his game needs to get better."
The Giants have an off day on Monday before opening their six-game road trip with a two-game series in Houston on Tuesday, and it will be interesting to see who mans the hot corner.
