Programming note: Giants-Rockies coverage starts tonight at 5pm with Giants Pregame Live on CSN Bay Area.
Ryan Vogelsong will take the mound tonight in Colorado.
Jake Peavy will start Saturday and Madison Bumgarner will pitch the series finale on Sunday.
Who will get the ball on Friday night?
"We're looking at Chris Heston. Heston will start for us," Giants GM Bobby Evans revealed on KNBR 680-AM on Thursday morning. "We're not sure whether the time off held back his best stuff in his last outing, but we're wanting the best of Chris Heston to show up."
The Giants optioned Heston to Triple-A Sacramento on Aug. 21 in order to make room for Marlon Byrd.
He was recalled to face the Cardinals last Sunday and things did not go well for the rookie.
Heston allowed five runs on nine hits over 3.2 innings, allowing two home runs in the process.
The Giants could have elected to start Tim Hudson, who was activated on Tuesday after spending the whole month of August on the disabled list.
Hudson entered Tuesday night's game against the Dodgers in the eighth inning and immediately allowed a leadoff double to Adrian Gonzalez. He was relived after getting Carl Crawford to ground out to shortstop.
The 40-year old hasn't started since July 26, and with Matt Cain on the 15-day DL, the Giants will continue to lean on Heston.
"I think it's been a long season for him," Evans said. "You know we talked about this earlier in the year -- the "wear down factor" -- in his first major league season, that it could be an issue for him.
"He has struggled in his last four or five starts ... Colorado is a tough place to pitch for anybody, but for a guy who can sink the ball and get groundballs, we're gonna have to go with Chris and ask that he give us his best shot.
"It's a hard way to come back after that tough outing in his last outing, but we're hoping that the time off and getting a little bit of an adjustment to back in the rotation will give him a good shot."
