Where will Jon Lester pitch in 2015?
Reports indicate he will sign with either the Giants, Cubs, Red Sox or Dodgers, with San Francisco and Chicago as the front-runners.
On Tuesday morning, Giants assistant GM Bobby Evans discussed the club's pursuit of Lester from the winter meetings in San Diego.
"We've got the impression that we are right in the thick of it," Evans told KNBR 680-AM. "It's hard to feel any certainty as to where we stack up.
"There are clubs that have some really good history with him."
Lester spent the first eight plus seasons of his career with the Red Sox, before Boston traded him to the A's in late July. And the 30-year old lefty has close connections to Cubs executives Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer from their days in Boston together.
"We are certainly staying as close to it as we can," Evans said. "Not sure if i know how to put the odds on it right now."
All four of Lester's final suitors have reportedly offered the three-time All-Star a contract in the six-year, $150 million range.
