The Giants purchased the contract of outfielder Cole Gillespie from Triple-A Fresno Friday afternoon, optioning outfielder Juan Perez to the Grizzlies to make space on the 25-man roster.

To clear space on the 40-man roster, the Giants transferred Angel Pagan to the 60-day disabled list.

Gillespie, 29, is hitting .277 in 74 games for the Grizzlies this year, with nine home runs and 31 RBI. He is a perfect 7-for-7 in stolen base attempts. He has 50 MLB games to his name over the past two seasons with the Diamondbacks and is a .236 hitter with three career home run in the majors.

Perez, 26, has played in 16 games for the Giants. He's batting .238 and has collected an impressive five outfield assists. Perez, who was drafted by the Giants in the 13th round of the 2008 draft, started hot at the plate, but is 2-for-20 (.100) in his last eight games.

Pagan, who was placed on the disabled list on June 7 with a strained left hamstring, aggravated the injury on a Single-A rehab assignment on June 20 and had surgery that is expected to keep him out until September.
