SAN FRANCISCO – The Giants didn’t want to risk forecasted rain washing out Ryan Vogelsong’s final spring tuneup, so they scratched him for Saturday’s exhibition game at Oakland.
Vogelsong traveled back to Arizona where the Giants planned for him to reach his pitch count in a minor league camp game.
In other news, infielder Tony Abreu cleared waivers and re-signed a minor league contract with the Giants. He’ll report to Triple-A Fresno. Abreu had been put on release waivers a week ago; it’s expected that Brandon Hicks and Ehire Adrianza will make the opening-day roster as backup infielders, instead.
The Giants were expected to set their roster on Saturday.
