SAN FRANCISCO – The Giants released their home spring training schedule on Monday, along with dates for the two traditional Bay Bridge exhibition games against the A’s at AT&T Park.
And no, Mr. Smartypants, the schedule doesn’t include an A’s “home” game at Third and King.
The Giants’ home spring schedule kicks off Feb. 26 at Scottsdale Stadium against the A’s. They’ll break camp in Arizona on March 26 and play the A’s in exhibitions March 26 and 27 at AT&T Park with both games starting at 7:15 pm.
The two teams are expected to play a customary third exhibition at the Coliseum in Oakland. But for now, the A’s are trying to negotiate a new, short-term lease with Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Authority, and the San Francisco Chronicle reported that Major League Baseball has offered to assist the A’s in moving its home games temporarily to AT&T Park if the lease standoff is not settled.
(Hey, if they offered to help, they offered to help. Seems like a total poker bluff to me, though.)
There’s no doubting where the Giants will be on April 1: Back in Arizona, to open the season against the Diamondbacks at Chase Field.
It’ll be just the home opener for Arizona, which will kick off baseball’s regular season March 22-23 with a pair of games that count against the Los Angeles Dodgers at the Sydney Cricket Grounds in Australia.
