Playing the Phillies at Seals Stadium, McCovey, batting 3rd and playing 1B, went 4 for 4 with 2 Triples and 2 RBI off future Hall-of-Famer Robin Roberts in the Giants 7-2 win. Despite playing in only 52 games, McCovey would win N.L. Rookie of the Year by finishing the season hitting .354 with 13 HR and 38 RBI.
